Hello

I am a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society, registered with the HCPC and fully accredited with the BACP.  Following specialist training, I am also a certified mentalization-based therapy practitioner and an EMDR therapist. Please note that I am fully insured, ICO registered and hold an up to date DBS Certificate.

As a practitioner, I adopt a compassionate approach to therapy, while informing my work with psychological theory and evidence-based practices.

My Story

Following a successful career in education and completing undergraduate and post graduate degrees in psychology, I undertook my first counselling qualification in 2008. Ultimately, I proceeded with my training achieving a professional doctorate in psychology and chartered status as a psychologist.

As a psychologist, our work can be mapped onto three broad stages of assessment, formulation (conceptualising psychological distress) and treatment. During my career as a psychologist, I have developed my identity as a practitioner according to a key set of values. I take a phenomenological approach to understanding what clients are experiencing in their day-to-day lives. Psychologists have a wide range of theories, techniques and skills but these need to be utilised according to the uniqueness of each and every client. I believe that it is of paramount importance that clients' autonomy is respected, so that therapeutic work is the product of a collaborative process.

It is a privilege being able to work on people's private experiences and relationship with distress in its many forms. I have a particular interest in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) inspired by my own experience as loved-one of someone with OCD. I have offered public speaking on OCD and have authored articles on multi-theoretical approaches to treating OCD and metaphor use in OCD treatments.
